Ithaca Community Yoga

Yoga Studio in Ithaca, NY

Join us as we explore our strength

Ithaca Community Yoga begins with community. We’ve created a place for people at any stage of life and their practice to explore physical, mental, and spiritual strength as humans and as part of the Ithaca community.

A home for your practice

Whether you’re an experienced yogi seeking to deepen your practice or new to yoga and wondering about the benefit it could have for your life (or somewhere in between) we’ve created a place for your wellness journey.

We know this journey looks and feels different to every one of us, and to each of us at different times in life and even times of day.

Whatever you need for your health, from a challenge to a release or just some “me” time on the mat, we are a home for your practice and a community coming together to support each other on our journey to better health.

That’s why we offer classes for all levels and goals, from those who’ve never tried yoga before (and might be a little intimidated) to experienced yogis seeking a challenge. Depending on your mood in the moment, we have flows to feel good, build fundamentals, challenge your strength and balance and to explore mind-body connection.

And are you a parent in need of a class for you and your kids? We offer weekly classes where parents take a class while your kids get to play with yoga next door.

Our teachers have a wide range of offerings beyond our regularly scheduled classes. We offer workshops and pop classes in everything from reiki to nidra and sound baths and for hypermobility, hip and shoulder mobility and even exploring the neuroscience of yoga. Be sure to download our Walla app to check our upcoming special offerings. Available on Apple and Android.

(Ps: Think a class is missing from our schedule? Feel free to reach out and let us know, we’ll see what we can do)

Our Studio

Our studio is at 509 N Meadow Street in the heart of Ithaca’s west end, across from the Ithaca Bakery and next door to Tamarind restaurant (both are so yummy!)

We chose this location because it’s easy to access and has plenty of free parking and, of course, has two beautiful studios with wood floors, lots of space to spread out and temperature controls so you will be comfortable despite Ithaca’s fickle weather, no matter what the time of year.

It also has a lovely community space where students and teachers can relax before or after class with free coffee, tea and snacks. You can also grab a book, game or appliance (popcorn maker for movie night 😊) from our community library for you and your friends & family to enjoy. And join us for monthly events from potlucks and tastings to give back days and mini fairs featuring local makers and service providers.

About us

A note from our founder: mediocre but enthusiastic yogi

Amity, founder of Ithaca Community Yoga

Hello fellow humans,

I thought I’d share how Ithaca Community Yoga came to be. My name is Amity, which means friendship. I’ve come in and out of yoga at different stages of my life. I started in college as a power yogi, came back to it as a stressed-out CEO that needed the mat to relax and then returned again for pain relief in my 40s.

Coming home to Ithaca after 20 years doing business in Africa, I booked yoga classes before I boarded my flight. The classes alleviated years of back pain and, what I hadn’t expected, kept me grounded through my parents’ downsizing in the dead of an Ithaca winter. Both what I knew –that yoga could help my body, and what was new to me, that yoga is a place to connect with yourself, made me want to explore whether my experience in business could benefit Ithaca’s yoga community.

As I engaged yoga teachers with such a range of backgrounds and experiences, I started to believe we could build something special together. As I started to go from idea to reality many of these teachers joined in, providing insight and feedback on everything from the studio space to building our community.

What we are creating together is a place where people of all backgrounds and life stages can find a home for their practice and where teachers thrive in sharing what they offer.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me, our studio manager Hope or any of the teachers. I take feedback seriously starting with our teachers and now including you, our fellow yogis.

On a final note, many teachers (and my mom) expressed concern that I title myself as a mediocre but enthusiastic yogi. I enjoy being mediocre and enthusiastic as a yogi. In business my life is defined by competition. I love yoga because it is a place that is defined by the lack of it. My practice is whatever I want & need it to be. So being mediocre and enthusiastic is exactly what I revel in because on my mat I can (enthusiastically) be myself without judgement or expectation 😊.

Warm wishes,

Amity

Our teachers : Explore our heart

We’ve created a place for people at any stage of life to explore physical, mental and spiritual strength. That starts with our teachers as our foundation. We empower our teachers in their practice and their lives.

We’ve created a space for our teachers to share their unique methods & styles. Each teacher builds their classes with creativity, purpose and the needs of our students at heart.

And we believe the time and energy yogis invest in becoming teachers should be reflected in the investment we make in them.  So, we offer great compensation and benefits as well as future ownership in the studio.

Check out our incredible teachers to learn about their yoga philosophy, what calls them to teach and what they love in yoga & life. We also feature all the other services and goods they offer and connect you to their socials so that you can find and benefit from all they bring to our community.

Is there a teacher you love that you don’t see here? Let us know and we’ll see if we can get them to join us 😊

Schedule

Our schedule is built to provide a range of courses for all bodies, interests and levels. We hope you enjoy exploring what works for you today (and tomorrow). Want a class in a timeslot it isn’t in? Or have an idea for a new offer? Reach out to us and we’ll see what we can do.

Please note that for the summer, and as we are a new studio, 7:30 am classes bookings will close at 7:30 pm the day before. This allows our teachers to arrange their time. Thanks so much for respecting them!

Spice levels show the level of heat you’ll generate in a class based on the speed, physical challenge, and use of weights. This is only an indication; you can modify your flow to fit your body for any given class.
